Brides want to know and we’re here to answer!
Q: What are the benefits of hiring a professional makeup artist versus a bride doing her own makeup?
Today’s wedding is a well-documented event photographed in high definition. Those images are a part of your history and important souvenirs of this special event. The importance of wearing correctly matched foundations paired with eye and lip colors that not only complement you, but portray you in an iconic and timeless way require the eye of a beauty expert. As professional makeup artists, we understand the timing of the day and know exactly how long it will take to achieve a flawless look for both our bride and those in her bridal party.
Q: When should a bride start to consider what her “Wedding Day Look” will be and what is the process for hiring a professional makeup artist and hairstylist?
As soon as you choose your date and venue for your wedding, the defining details of the day will unfold. First you need to choose your gown and headpiece and if possible, the colors your bridesmaids will wear. So many variables such as location and season will influence how a bride will wear her makeup and hair. For example, a beach wedding requires a different look then a black tie affair at a museum. As beauty and style experts, we are here to help interpret what will work for the time and place of your event. Because we book up far in advance, we suggest you secure your date with us as soon as possible. We will work out the details of your beauty during your Preview Consultation.
Q: Does the time of day a bride is getting married and the type of wedding she is having factor into her wedding day makeup and hair?
Absolutely! Morning brides want a fresh, dewy, wide-awake look that is naturally interpreted with soft tones and subtle sparkle. They seek a sheer look that photographs beautifully while conveying a barely-there makeup presence. Complimentary false lashes are subtle and liner refined. Hair might be down with soft curls.
The afternoon bride takes it one step further, while still embracing a fresh luminance. She might opt for a slightly smoky eye that will take her into the evening. Complimentary false eyelashes will offer just the right pop to her look. Her liner is usually more prominent with lip color in a striking hue. Hair may go partially up or, if it is a hot day, into an updo.
The evening bride wants to bring on the glam! She loves complimentary full false lashes, smoky smoldering eyes, sparkly cheek color and strong brows. Hair takes on a more dramatic look, usually in a high, low or side chignon. Naturally, so much of how a look is interpreted will depend on where she is getting married and what type of wedding she is having. Remember that there are no hard and fast rules. As beauty professionals, we are sensitive to the comfort level of each bride and those in her party having their makeup and hair done.Smoky eyes and lashes aren’t for everyone!
Q: What are some of the trends in wedding day makeup?
At BridesMade, we are careful not to do anything that conveys a “trendy” look. Brides forget that they will be immortalized on film as a part of their history so it is essential that they love their look, not just on the day of the wedding, but 30 years from now. As a beauty guides, we can envision how the entire look will come together once we see the gown and go through the Preview Consultation. There is only a small window of time to get to know a bride; to visualize her in the gown she chooses; and the design vision of the day. Channeling that information into a beautifully made up face and styled hair requires numerous questions and an innate sense of wedding style. This is why professionals experienced in bridal beauty are essential. We are here to guide you every step of the way.
Q: What are some of the techniques you use to ensure a brides’ makeup will last all day long and into the night?
It definitely helps when a bride arrives on her big day looking and feeling rested. Without a doubt, brides who exercise, watch their diet and don’t overindulge in alcohol and partying the nights leading up to the wedding always have a canvas that is easier to paint! Our makeup mainstays are moisturizers, primers and everything waterproof. We live in a humid part of the country so using waterproof concealers and liners with primers for face and lid as backups ensures that the makeup will last through an emotionally packed day of joy, tears, kisses, eating and toasting!
Q: How do you feel about the bride and her bridesmaids showing you photos of beauty inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest?
We encourage you to bring images that inspire the direction you’d like to go. We will tell you if what you have chosen works or not due to a difference in, for example, eye size or facial structure. Or if your hair is not similar in texture or length to the example you share. But we will do our best to replicate those details that your desire and make you the most comfortable. Our goal is to have you looking beyond beautiful in every way we can.
